Okay bride friends, let’s get real here. How much time and energy have you already put into planning your reception? And how much effort has gone toward your ceremony? If you’re anything like I was, your Pinterest board alone is evidence of the hours and hours you’ve already invested into planning the party half of your wedding day. But, have you really given much thought to the events of the ceremony? Have you thought at all about the words that will be spoken over your marriage? Today, we’re giving the ceremonial half of the day some well overdue attention with a selection of ceremony readings that will perfectly set the tone for your Big Day. From romantic to playful, poetic to artsy, we have literature options to match your wedding style as a couple.
It’s Your Ceremony. Do It Your Way.
Your readings should celebrate the very best parts of your love story to date, as well as everything that you’re looking forward to in marriage. You have one and only one responsibility when it comes to selecting your ceremony reading(s). Pick something that holds meaning to you. It doesn’t matter if it’s readings, traditions, music, or rituals. If you just throw things into the mix as program fillers, you’ll likely not appreciate them on the day of. As for your readings, you might find the right words that speak to your hearts in a favorite poem, a passage of scripture, an excerpt from a beloved book, or even song lyrics.
While there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the number of readings you should include, we recommend that you pair it down to just one or two. If you’re providing programs, consider printing the text of the readings within the program so your guests can follow along. This is especially nice for those in attendance who are not able to hear as well, or, if you have family members similar to ours, those who have a special fondness for keepsakes.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more ideas and resources for planning the ceremony of your dreams! We’ll be covering all of the special, personalized touches that will leave your guests laughing, crying (happy tears!!), and feeling honored to have witnessed the life-changing moment of you and your fiancé being pronounced husband and wife.
